IPL Auction 2018 Live Updates: Ben Stokes is the costliest buy so far at the 2018 auctions with Rajasthan Royals buying the England player for Rs 12.50 crore. KL Rahul became the highest paid Indian player when Kings XI Punjab bought him for Rs 11 crore. Mitchell Starc was also a big buy with Delhi going for Rs 9.4 crore. Many of the Indian players like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Gautam Gambhir underwhelmed at the auctions as they could not him big numbers. Yuvraj will play for KXIP. Harbhajan will go to CSK and Gambhir is back in Delhi. Rajasthan bought Rahane for Rs 4 crore using the RTM card. But the big move was R Ashwin who will now for Kings XI Punjab after CSK did not bid for him! Shikhar Dhawan was retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad and no other big surprise was seen after the two pools of marquee players. The franchises will now fight for the capped players. IPL Auction 2018 Live Updates: 12:33 pm IST: Shane Watson up for auction. Chennai are bidding for him. Bangalore have a RTM for him. CSK buy Watson for Rs 4 crore and RCB have decided not to use their RTM. Watson will play for CSK!

12:25 pm IST: Carlos Brathwaite is the new name in the list. His base price is Rs 1 crore and Delhi has an RTM option. He will be retained for Rs 4.5 crore. Sunrisers Hyderabad buy Brathwaite for Rs 2 crore and Delhi decide not to use RTM

12:20 pm IST: Now the set of all-rounders and the first player in the list is Chris Woakes! He has a base price of Rs 2 crore. Bangalore open the bidding for Woakes. Chennai Super Kings are the other team bidding for him. The fight has made his price go up to Rs 6 crore. Chris Woakes will play for Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7.4 crore!

12:03 pm IST: Manish Pandey is going for a big price! Most franchises are interested in him. The base price of Rs 1 crore has risen to Rs 8 crore with RCB having the bid. KXIP then jump in to increase it. RCB out. Now Hyderabad are in the bid. It has reached Rs 10 crore. The bid is up with Rs 11 crore and it is with Hyderabad. KXIP stop the bid and Manish Pandey is sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 11 crore. KKR decide not to use RTM

11:58 am IST: Chris Lynn, the big name, is up for bidding. Kolkata and Delhi bidding for them. The base price of Rs 2 crore have risen to Rs 7.20 crore. Both teams going all out for him. But KKR buy Chris Lynn for Rs 9.6 crore.

11:54 am IST: Jason Roy sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.5 crore. That is a steal for Delhi. Jason Roy and Gambhir to open? Or will it be Pant and Gambhir?

11:51 am IST: Brendon McCullum, with a base price of Rs 2 crore, is up for auction. Royal Challengers Bangalore open the bidding for him. Delhi Daredevils take the price to Rs 3.4 crore. RCB back with Rs 3.6 crore and McCullum is sold to RCB for that price!

11:45 am IST: Aaron Finch is up for bidding now. Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab open the battle for him. His base price is Rs 1.5 crore. KXIP looking eager to take him. KXIP get Aaron Finch for Rs 6.20 crore for IPL XI

11:43 am IST: Mumbai Indians bought David Miller for Rs 3 crore but Kings XI Punjab use RTM to retain him. So David Miller will player for Kings XI Punjab for Rs 3 crore. Earlier, Murali Vijay went unsold in this auction!

11:39 am IST: KL Rahul to play for Kings XI Punjab after he is bought by them for Rs 11 crore. He is the costliest Indian so far in the auction. Bangalore chose not to use the RTM card for him!

11:32 am IST: KARUN NAIR TO TURN UP FOR KXIP! Delhi Daredevils decide not to use RTM and KXIP have Nair at Rs 5.6 crore. Rajasthan were also going for him before deciding to back off

11:20 am IST: Capped batsmen is the next pool and the first name is Karun Nair. His base price is Rs 50 lakh. Kings XI and Rajasthan Royals in battle for him now. The price has shot up to Rs 3 crore. Either team not backing off

11:18 am IST: Yuvraj Singh will play for Kings XI Punjab with SRH not using their RTM. Only Rs 2 crore for him. But he is back at his home! Yuvraj was with SRH in the previous IPL.

11:16 am IST: Joe Root goes unsold! Everyone moves on to Yuvraj Singh. KXIP open the bidding for him. SRH have a RTM to keep him. Will he be retained or will he get a new franchise?

11:14 am IST: Sunriseres Hyderabad manage to keep Kane Williamson. He will turn out for the same franchise for a price of Rs 3 crore. RCB were in the bidding process but decided to leave it in the middle

11:12 am IST: Chennai Super Kings retain Dwayne Bravo for a price of Rs 6.4 crore! He was bought by Kings XI Punjab but CSK were ready to RTM. That is a good buy from CSK.

11:09 hrs IST: Gautam Gambhir to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 2.80 crore! No use of Right-to-Match from Kolkata Knight Riders. Gambhir will be back at him hometown. He began the IPL with Delhi!

11:06 am IST: Glenn Maxwell to play for Delhi Daredevils for a price of Rs 9 crore. Kings XI Punjab do not use their RTM to retain him. Delhi are happy with that buy!

11:03 am IST: Maxwell has been a hot property at auctions and once again teams are after him. His price up to Rs 8.20 crore with Delhi. The bid continues. Maxwell’s price up to Rs 9 crore

11:00 am IST: Glenn Maxwell is the next name. SRH and RCB in a battle for him. This is the first bid from RCB. Delhi Daredevils in the bid now. His price is already up from Rs 2 crore to Rs 7 crore.

10:58 am IST: Shakib Al Hasan is the next player in the auction list. SRH and RR in a battle for the Bangladesh all-rounder. He is sold to Sunrisers for Rs 2 crore! He was with KKR before

10:57 am IST: Harbhajan Singh to play for Chennai Super Kings! He is sold to CSK for base price of Rs 2 crore. MS Dhoni and Harbhajan Singh unite. That is a some combination!

10:55 am IST: Second set of marquee players to begin now! The first name in the pool is Harbhajan Singh. He has a base price of Rs 2 crore. CSK open the bid for Harbhajan Singh

10:40 am IST: That concludes the first part of the IPL Auction. RCB have been mute spectators thus far. SRH have been shy to get their cheque book out too but have used RTM for Dhawan. KXIP the most active so far.

10:33 am IST: Mitchell Starc is the player next. Enters the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore. KXIP and KKR embroiled in a bidding war for the left-handed seamer. KKR have taken the war to Rs 9.40 crore before Preity Zinta pulls out. MITCHELL STARC GOES TO KKR FOR Rs 9.40 CRORE!

10:32 am IST: Ajinkya Rahane to KXIP for Rs 4 crore before RR come in with RTM. So, India’s top order batsman Ajinkya Rahane to RR for Rs 4 crore by using the RTM.

10:30 am IST: Faf du Plessis sold to Kings XI Punjab for 1.60 crore after a base price of Rs 1.50 crore. CSK swoop in with their RTM. CSK use RTM on Faf du Plessis for Rs 1.60 crore.

10:22 am IST: Ben Stokes is the next player to enter the auction. Base price of Rs 2 crore as is the case for marquee players. CSK and KXIP in the bidding war. KXIP make it Rs 6.60 crore before Fleming says ‘no’. KKR enter the fray with Rs 6.80 crore. KXIP still in it. And in the middle of it all, champagne cork pop goes off! Laughter fills the room. KKR out of the bidding fight. The amount has reached Rs 12 crore. RR enter the bidding process with 50 lakhs more. Rs 12.50 crore. KXIP are out. STOKES SOLD TO RAJASTHAN ROYALS FOR Rs 12.50 CRORE!

10:21 am IST: Another West Indian up for grabs now. Chris Gayle at a base price of Rs 2 crore. Wasn’t retained by the RCB. Surprisingly no takers for the explosive West Indies opener. No bid. CHRIS GAYLE GOES UNSOLD!

10:17 am IST: Kieron Pollard is the third player in the auction. His starting bid is of Rs 2 crore. MI and KXIP in the bidding war for the West Indian. Pollard goes to MI for Rs 5.40 crore. And MI use the RTM for Pollard for Rs 5.40 crore.

10:12 am IST: R Ashwin is the next player under the bidding process. Rs 2 crore the base price. RR up the bid to Rs 4.80 crore. KXIP make it Rs 5.20 crore. RR and KXIP up the ante. KXIP make it Rs 6 crore. Make that Rs 6.40 crore. RR the other team in the fray. KXIP bag Ashwin for Rs 7.60 crore. 

10:07 am IST: Vivo executive head out first to help in the bidding process alongside. Shikhar Dhawan is the first player to enter the bidding process. His base price is of Rs 2 crore. Teams involved in bidding war, RR, KXIP. Kings XI have taken the lead in the war by bidding Rs 4 crore. SRH with a RTM on Dhawan. MI enter the fray with Rs 4.20 crore. And they’ve taken it up to Rs 5 crore. KXIP make it Rs 5.20 crore. MI are out. SOLD! Dhawan has been sold to KXIP for Rs 5.20 crore. But SRH retain Dhawan for Rs 5.20 crore.

10:02 am IST: IPL chief Rajiv Shukla takes the stage next. Almost 290 players to go under the hammer today, he informs. Next up is a word from the RCA on their termination by the BCCI and status of Rajasthan Royals by extension. All hunky, dory and we’re set to begin!

0920 hrs IST: For the first time, RTM will be employed by the franchises in the IPL Auction. How does the RTM work: Using the RTM card, a franchise can retain a player who played for them in the past by choosing to match the highest bid for the player. For the two returning teams, CSK and RR, they can retain players who were part of their 2015 squads and subsequently part of the temporary teams in either Gujarat Lions or Rising Pune Supergiant.

However, there are some limitations to the RTM. A team could exercise a combination of player retentions and RTM – a maximum of 5 in total – so if a team retained 3 players, they can opt for two RTM options only in the auction. Out of the five, there can only be – a) 3 Indian capped players, b) 2 Capped foreign players or c) 2 Uncapped players. For example, CSK and MI have retained three capped Indian players and now they can’t use the RTM in that category. On the other side of the fence, KKR have retained two capped overseas players so they can use their RTM’s in the other two categories.

0913 hrs IST: Here’s the lowdown: Almost 580 players to be auctioned in Bengaluru. 361 of them will be Indians. Franchise size to vary from a minimum of 18 to a maximum of 25. Minimum squad spend is of Rs 60 crores and maximum number of overseas players allowed is 8.
