CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Trial has been delayed for a Cedar Rapids teen accused of killing a man and injuring another teen in a 2016 shooting.
Television station KCRG reports that 17-year-old Kenyauta Vesey-Keith is being tried as an adult on charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, willful injury causing serious injury and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
Prosecutors say the March 2016 shooting was proceeded by a fight involved more than a dozen people. They believe Vesey-Keith was involved and that he retrieved a gun and fired multiple rounds, hitting 21-year-old Brandon Johnson and a 16-year-old boy. Johnson died from his injuries.
Vesey-Keith's trial had been scheduled to begin Monday, but a judge agreed to delay the trial at defense lawyers' request. A new trial date hasn't been set.
