A day after the murder of Boddupalli Srinivas, husband of Nalgonda municipal chairperson Boddupalli Laxmi, the Congress party demanded the State government to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry, besides expelling a ruling party elected representative from the party.
The Congress also sought action against police officials for their alleged role into the incident.
“It is a political murder by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi. Shameful and inhumane,” Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy remarked.
A delegation of senior Congress leaders here on Friday expressed their condolences to the bereaved family and said it was “a cinema-style plot”, aimed at weakening the party in Nalgonda. The leaders also held a group photograph that showed Nakrekal MLA Vemula Veeresham along with the members involved in the murder, at least two of them on the run.
Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy also maintained that the government should be held responsible for the “political murder” as the Boddupalli couple’s persistent requests for sanction of arm’s licence and gunman was rejected.
“I have no faith in the police,” said Leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, Mohd. Shabbir Ali. Deputy Superintendent of Police S. Sudhakar is favouring the ruling party by conducting mulaqats, and the local police is trying to close the case by citing personal disputes among members,” he said.
Senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao said the party leaders would stage a sit-in before the DGP’s office in Hyderabad.
“Only a CBI investigation would unearth the facts being hidden by the ruling party,” Leader of Opposition K. Jana Reddy and MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said. “Order a CBI probe to prove us wrong,” they said.
