Meet some snowbirds

Of the 1,800-plus people who register as Walton County Snowbirds each year, quite a large number are single. Unlike their much younger counterparts, the Snowbird Singles are not necessarily looking for a mate or even a date. They are mostly interested in meeting new friends and doing activities in a group instead of alone.

This year, 73 members have joined this “group within a group” so far, according to Eileen Anderson, one of the activity leaders. Eileen, who is from Wisconsin, has been taking part for just two years, having seen information on the Walton County Snowbirds website.

“So far this season we’ve had a cocktail party in December, dinner on New Year's Eve and in January we had a Meet and Greet,” Eileen explained. “We also go to area restaurants for Happy Hour once a week and have lunch after our general meeting. We are a friendly fun group that enjoys socializing. Sometimes it’s hard to go out and do things when you are by yourself and this is a good way to meet new people."

To join them, just register as a Walton County Snowbird next Monday and sign up with the group.
