Agong attends dinner in conjunction with 36th World Customs Day

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V attended a dinner in conjunction with the 36th World Customs Day celebration at a hotel last night.

He was welcomed upon arrival at 9.15pm by Royal Malaysian Customs Department director-general, Datuk Seri T. Subromaniam.

Also present was Second Finance Minister, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani.

Meanwhile, Subromaniam said the department had targeted to collect RM60.96 billion in taxes this year compared to RM58.82 billion in 2017.

The collection from the Goods and Services Tax (GST) last year was RM44.03 billion or 75% of the total revenue collected by the department, he said in his speech at the dinner.

Subromaniam also said an efficient and systematic tax collection would be able to generate high and stable revenue for the use of socio-economic development for the country. — Bernama
