Despite many thinking it would be a close dual, the McPherson High wrestling team proved otherwise on Thursday as they traveled to Augusta and dominated the Orioles in a 52-24 dual victory.
The win leaves the Bullpup grapplers unbeaten at 3-0 in AVCTL Division III matches, while they are now 12-1 overall for the season.
Individually, McPherson won 10 of the 14 matches, with six of the wins being by falls. Rhett Edmonson returned to the mats after being out for a week due to illness and won by a fall, while Scott Radke moved up a weight division to 160 and still recorded a victory by fall.
After having wrestling each of the past two weekends at strong tournaments in Newton and Hays, the Bullpup varsity wrestlers get some well needed rest and they have the weekend off, and will not be back on the mats until Thursday, February 1 when they travel to El Dorado to make up for the Jan. 11 dual that was postponed due to weather.
The McPherson girls wrestling team will be on the mats Saturday in the Fredonia Invitational, while the Bullpup junior varsity wrestlers will also be on the mats Saturday at a dual in Marion.
