LAKELAND — Four different players scored as top-seeded Lakeland Christian remained undefeated with a 5-0 win over All Saints Friday night in the Class 1A, District 9 girls soccer championship game.

Both teams advance to the Class 1A regional quarterfinals on Feb. 6. Lakeland Christian (19-0-2) will host Vero Beach St. Edward’s and All Saints (12-5-0) will travel to Melbourne Holy Trinity, which defeated St. Edward’s 2-0, in the 1A-10 district championship game.

“I thought our girls came out really focused,” LCS coach Jason Streets said. “Plus it’s about getting an opportunity to host the next round. It’s set up pretty good for us.”

LCS has advanced to the Class 1A state championship game three of the last four years.

Katie Carnes, the Vikings’s leading goal scorer, scored two first-half goals — her 26th and 27th of the year — to lead LCS. Eden Guynn also scored in the first half, which ended with LCS leading 3-0.

“We got a goal early (by Carnes),” Streets said. “We wanted to get a goal by the 10-minute mark and that set the tone for the game.”

Carnes’ first goal, unassisted, came with 31:52 left in the first half.

Isabel Matallana and Maddie Lopez scored second half goals. Matallana, Avery Crosby and Mary Fran Caswell each had one assist.

The Vikings’ defense and goalkeepers Taylor O’Byrne and Breanna Neweberg recorded LCS’ 14th shutout of the season. LCS has outscored its opponents 99-8 this year.

“That’s been a goal for Taylor and the defense to get as many (shutouts) as we can,” Streets said.

“This year’s been awesome so far,” he added. “With the players we lost, with what we had coming back, it’s been fun to see this team come together.”
