CMC organises ‘centenary run’

Three-year-old boy and a 90-year-old man were among the participants

Nearly 800 persons took part in the ‘Centenary Run’ organised by the The Christian Medical College (CMC) on Friday.

The college, which was established in 1918 by Ida Scudder, is celebrating the centenary of its medical education this year. As part of the year-long events, a run was organised for 7.5 km from the CMC hospital to Oval Ground in Bagayam and for 5 km from Voorhees College to the Oval Ground.

According to CMC authorities, the oldest participant was 90-year-old Perumal, while the youngest one was 3-year-old Nathaniel. Among men, Madhavan, a student of Muthurangam Government Arts College, emerged as winner in the below 50 years category in the 7.5 km run. The boy, a second year student of physics, and a resident of Kalvasal near Santhavasal in Tiruvannamalai, won the race wearing sandals.

Sampath Karl (50 to 65 years category) and Alan John David (below 18 years) won the race among men, while Catherine (above 50 years) and Hallel Reba won the race among women in the 7.5 km run.

The run was flagged off by VIT’s vice president G.V. Selvam. CMC’s director J.V. Peter and principal Anna B. Pulimood were present.
