Several suspects were charged this week in separate burglary investigations in Lafourche Parish, authorities said.

Fifteen people have been arrested on burglary charges thus far in January, and several more face other charges in connection with the burglaries, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Kevin Scioneaux, 32, of Thibodaux was originally arrested in December after stealing a firearm from outside a Kraemer home in November, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office said.

As water patrol deputies were responding to a series of camp burglaries in the Choctaw area on Dec. 27, they discovered Scioneaux in a boat with several items determined to have been stolen, authorities said. He was charged with theft of a firearm and simple burglary.

Through further investigation, detectives linked Scioneaux to four more camp burglaries, authorities said. The suspect was booked on four additional counts of simple burglary on Wednesday.

Seventeen-year-old Markell Folse and Corey Porter Jr., 19, both of Raceland, were charged in two recent Raceland burglaries, authorities said. The first theft occurred on Peps Lane on Oct. 17 and the other transpired at a home on St. Philip Street on Monday.

Folse and Porter were each charged with two counts of simple burglary and were booked into the Lafourche Parish jail. Porter was additionally charged with illegal possession of stolen things, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies learned the items were stolen during a December burglary of a residence on St. Patrick Street in Raceland, which remains under investigation authorities said. Justavran Howard, 19, and Kanisha Rener, 17, both of Raceland, were also charged in connection to that incident after deputies found stolen items in their possession, authorities said.

Raceland resident Chris Wheaton, 51, was also arrested on simple burglary charges on Thursday, the Sheriff’s Office said. He is accused of a residential burglary on Morristown Road in Raceland in December. Authorities charged Raceland resident Gabrielle Griffin, 34, in connection to this incident.

Sheriff Craig Webre praised the efforts of the deputies and detectives involved in the cases.

“We understand how frustrating property crimes can be for the victims,” Webre said. “In many ways, they can be frustrating to investigate as well. Thanks to some great, old-fashioned police work, we were able to make progress on a number of these burglaries in a short amount of time, resulting in the recent arrests.”
