MANILA, Philippines — Arellano U clipped San Beda with its power game and solid blocking and came away with a 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 victory yesterday to clinch the first Final Four berth in the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Fying V Center in San Juan yesterday.
Jovielyn Prado unloaded a match-high 17 hits she laced with four aces while Regine Arocha chipped in 11 markers for the Lady Chiefs, who likewise put their superb defense on display to whip the Red Spikers in a duel of unbeaten teams.
The win was Arellano’s seventh straight as the Lady Chiefs took the first seat in the next round while stalling their Red Spikers’ own semis drive.
Victories over St. Benilde on Monday and San Sebastian on Thursday will complete a sweep and send Arellano straight to the finals.
In a match expected to be fierce and tight, Arellano turned it into a one-sided contest by dismantling San Beda with its rock-solid blocking and superb court coverage.
