CAIRO — Firefighters from Bath Township Fire Department were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday to 4220 E. State Road, near the intersection of Mayberry Road in Monroe Township, in response to the report of a barn fire.

Upon their arrival, firefighters found the structure fully involved and spreading to nearby trees and vegetation, according to a statement released by Chief Joe Kitchen.

The building is owned by James Kiracofe of Utica and is being rented by Don Miner, who resides in a house on the same property. Miner told investigators he had a large amount of tools, equipment, vehicles and personal items inside the structure. Fire department officials have been unable to determine if the structure is insured.

No estimate of damages caused by the fire has been released and the cause of the blaze remains under investigation, Kitchen said. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours. Area units providing assistance included the Beaverdam-Richland Fire Department and Cairo-Monroe Fire Department.
