The Telangana government had recommended multiple names for Padma awards this year but none was selected, Telangana Rashtra Samithi MP B. Vinod Kumar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Mr. Vinod Kumar said in his letter that he could understand the discretion of the Padma awards committee in the matter but the nominees of the State government merited selection because they were well known for their lifetime achievements and special service which was the basic criteria.
In the light of the above circumstances, the MP requested Mr. Modi to consider making the process of selection for Padma awards more equitable to adequately and proportionately reward contributions of individuals from all regions across the country. He expressed his disappointment over names from Telangana not figuring in the list.
