Ukip leader Henry Bolton claims he's 'skint' - but received THOUSANDS from party weeks ago

HENRY Bolton has received thousands in expenses in the past month despite the under-fire Ukip leader claiming his “savings have just about gone” and that he is now “skint”, it has been revealed.

The revelation has come following Ukip’s refusal to pay Mr Bolton’s expenses.

Party treasurer John Bickley has admitted that Mr Bolton has been given thousands since September 29.

Mr Bolton has received two large payments from his party since he was made leader, it has been reported.

One payment is understood to have been made approximately a fortnight before Christmas, while another was made after news of his affair with 25-year-old model Jo Marney broke.

Mr Bickley said: “Ukip has paid him expenses and living allowances.

“It’s incontrovertible he has had his expenses and living allowances paid.

“The party has been doing everything to try to help him.

“The party isn’t undermining him.”

Mr Bickley, however, declined to say what exactly the payments covered due to concerns over confidentiality.

He added: “It was absolutely clear at the leadership election the role did not come with a salary.

“Mr Bolton knew there was no salary.”

However, the Ukip leader has been more forthcoming in admitting how much money he has received.

Mr Bolton said: "I have indeed received reimbursement for expenses.

“I have never said otherwise. I have received just under £7,000 in allowances.

"However, the process by which we - I and the National Executive Committee (NEC) - had agreed before Christmas that I would be paid a stipend has never been implemented.

“I therefore have no regular income from the Party and am unable to plan accordingly.”

He went on to say he had “probably closer to £9,000, including around £2,200 of reimburses expenses”.

He added: “I’ve said that there is no regular income and the NEC has not implemented the agreed stipend mechanism.

"And I have no savings left. I am now skint."

The news has also come after earlier this week it was revealed Ukip is losing “£20,000 to £30,000 a month” as Henry Bolton declared that the party is struggling to “balance the books”, hinting its end could be near.

The leader does not receive a salary and is instead provided with a monthly stipend - the NEC voted 14-1 to declare a vote of no confidence in the former army officer, this resulted in a refusal to provide him with a payment on Sunday.

Mr Bolton said: “There are bills to be paid and all my savings have just about gone.

“There is absolutely nothing convenient in any of this for me.

“I am not doing it for the money, I am not doing it for my ego, I am not doing it for my personal life.

“I am doing it simply and only because I believe that Ukip’s voice must be heard in the discussion about leaving the European Union.”

Following the party’s refusal to cover his expenses, the embattled boss claimed the current situation was “not sustainable”.

The NEC agreed to postpone the decision on whether Mr Bolton will receive a stipend until the body's next meeting.

Mr Bolton went on: “We do need to discuss it because the present situation is not sustainable.”

A friend of the embattled leader disclosed he is “paying for everything” as he waits on the party to make the all-important finance decision.

They explained: "He is paying for everything. Tickets from Folkestone to London. Everything. He doesn't get a bean."

The former armed forces man resides at a flat in a hotel in Folkestone.

As pressure mounts on Mr Bolton to step down, he has issued a desperate plea for support by affirming he is still “best placed to take the party forward”.

The vote of no-confidence was held after it was alleged the leader’s then-partner, Jo Marney, had sent racist text messages about Meghan Markle.

However, Mr Bolton has refused to resign sending the party into chaos.

Trust in the Ukip leader was dampened further after he claimed his relationship with Ms Marney was over before later being seen having dinner with her at a club in Westminster.
