The performance of the Mysuru Division of the South Western Railway has improved on various parameters and its originating revenue had increased during the current financial year.
This was stated by the Divisional Railway Manager Atul Gupta at the 69th Republic Day celebrations here on Friday. Mr. Gupta said the originating revenue (as on December 31, 2017) was ₹457.38 crore as against ₹439.91 crore earned during the corresponding period last year.
The Division has transported 3.58 million tonnes of goods till December 2017 as compared to 3.39 million tonnes achieved in the corresponding period of last fiscal year, an incremental growth of 5.4%, he said. Also, it was the best across the Indian Railways with a punctuality rate of over 98% , he added.
The Division is one among the top 10 on the cleanliness front. On-board housekeeping services have been provided on eight trains, said Mr. Gupta. “Mechanised cleaning has been adopted for cleaning of both coaches and stations; 356 coaches were provided with bio-toilets in the division,” he added.
The thrust was on greater digitalisation and in this connection the railways has installed 97 point of sale machines in passenger reservation centres and parcel offices to facilitate cashless transactions. These have been installed at Passenger Reservation System Centres and Parcel Office while provision of hi-speed Wi-Fi network was in progress at Davangere and Shivamogga stations.
As a part of Innovative Idea, the Division has provided Road User Warning Boards with pictures depicting consequences of trespassing at 15 identified unmanned Level Crossings between Mysuru and Arsikere; Birur and Talaguppa; and between Chickjajur and Rayadurga sections, according to Mr.Gupta.
On the safety front he said the work on elimination of unmanned level crossing gates – where a majority of accidents occur leading to high fatalities and are a serious impediment in punctual operation of train services – was progressing satisfactorily.
Earlier, he unfurled the national flag. Senior officials of the division were present.
