FAMA projects sales value of RM1b

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) has projected a sales value of almost RM1 billion from 706 farmers' markets nationwide this year.

FAMA Entrepreneurial Development Division director Rosilawati Abu Hassan said the sales value last year stood at RM860 million throughout the country.

"The sales value of the farmers' markets is expected to be higher this year due to the 'Jimat Belanja Dapur' or Kitchen Savings programme to be launched at the national level next month," she said when visiting the Putrajaya farmers' market here today.

FAMA, in a statement, said the Putrajaya farmers' market at Precinct 2 was chosen as the pre-launch location of the programme today because it recorded the highest sales of RM2 million monthly with an average of 2,000 visitors at every market being held.

The statement said the Jimat Belanja Dapur programme offered savings of five to 20% aimed at addressing the rising cost of living faced by the people.

"A total of 27 commodities are listed under the programme, among others, big onions, shallots, potatoes, ginger and carrots," said the statement, adding that the raw material supplies were sourced from the Dengkil FAMA Operations Centre. — Bernama
