A 23-year-old Elyria man was arraigned Jan. 26 on charges that accuse him of crashing a stolen car and then fleeing on foot last year.

Alexander C. Kilgore, who did not enter a plea in Elyria Municipal Court, faces two counts of aggravated vehicular assault and single counts of leaving the scene of a crash, receiving stolen property, obstructing official business, driving under suspension and driving left of center in connection with a hit-skip crash that left two injured Nov. 24.

According to a media release from the Ohio Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 10:56 a.m. on Lake Avenue when a man drove a stolen 2015 Jeep Wrangler southbound on the road.

He drove left of center, striking a 2010 Ford Flex and seriously injuring the two occupants, the release said.

The man immediately fled on foot, but was observed entering a liquor store and purchasing an item, according to the release.

He was caught on video at that location, the release said.

Kilgore currently is lodged at the Lorain County Jail with no bond pending his preliminary hearing Feb. 1 in Elyria Municipal Court.

According to court documents, Kilgore has been deemed a flight risk after fleeing a bailiff who informed him of his arrest warrant in connection with the crash while he was in court on a separate matter.

The release thanks the public for its help in providing leads, which assisted the patrol’s “extensive investigation” of the crash.
