DURHAM University has appointed Liz Waller as its new director of library services and university librarian.

Jane Robinson, chief operating officer at Durham University, said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Liz as our new University Librarian. She is an experienced Librarian and leader with a strong track-record of innovation and of supporting academics, students and the wider community alongside an impressive knowledge of the sector.”

Liz is currently head of library and archives at the University of York. She also served as deputy director library and archives and head of strategic planning at the University of York.

An elected member of the SCONUL (a membership organisation for all academic and national libraries) Executive Board, Liz was a founding member of the Northern Collaboration of HE Libraries and has contributed to the professional press in information literacy, student skills, marketing and building design and contributed to a number of UK and overseas conferences.

She said: “I am honoured to have been appointed at such an exciting time in the organisation’s history.”

Liz holds an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Leeds.

She also holds an MA in Library and Information Work from Leeds Polytechnic and has more than 30 years’ professional experience in a range of higher education institutions. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
