Two women in their 80s die in crash with semi in northeast SD

WATERTOWN, S.D.  – Two women in their 80s were killed Friday morning, Jan. 26,  in a crash with a semi near the South Dakota-Minnesota border on state Highway 22 southeast of Watertown.

Names of the people involved are not being released pending notification of families.  

A 1998 Lincoln Town Car was westbound on the highway when the vehicle slid into the eastbound lane where it was hit by an oncoming 2016 Peterbuilt Prostar.

Both women in the car, the 83-year-old driver and the 86-year-old passenger, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. It is unknown at this time whether they were wearing seatbelts.

The 56-year-old man drivng the semi was not injured. He was wearing a seatbelt.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The crash at 8:15 a.m. was one mile east of Clear Lake, which is about 28 miles from Watertown.
