Woman killed by muggers’ car during bag-snatching in Dhaka

DHAKA: A housewife was killed after getting hit by a car driven by some unknown muggers who tried to snatch her handbag and fled away in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area on Friday morning (January 26).

The deceased was identified as Helena Begum, 35, wife of one Monirul Islam Montu of Barisal sadar upazila. Montu was with her wife during the incident. 

Quoting victim’s husband, Dhanmondi police station sub-inspector (SI) Noyon Kumar Chakrabarti told Banglanews that the couple was walking on Dhanmondi Road-6 while some muggers in a private car tried to snatch Helena’s handbag. She tripped and got hit by the car during the incident. 

Later she was rushed to Green Life hospital where on-duty physician declared her dead on arrival. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, the SI added.
