MANSFIELD - An 88-year-old Polk woman died following a crash that occurred on U.S. Route 42 at Stewart Road around 4:55 p.m. Thursday, according to the Mansfield post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.  

The crash occurred when a 2005 black GMC Sierra was southbound on U.S. Route 42, failed to stop for the traffic light and collided with a 2005 tan Lexus ES330 that was northbound on Stewart Road. The impact forced the GMC Sierra off the roadway and into the ditch, according to the patrol. 

The driver of the GMC was Cody Sesco, 25, of Mansfield. Sesco was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries, according to the patrol.

The driver of the Lexus was Jeffery Humrichouser, 61, of Polk, was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries. Passenger Mary Humrichouse, 88, of Polk, was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health and later flown to Grant Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries, according to the patrol.

Madison Township and Mifflin Township fire and EMS responded to the scene. U.S. 42 remained open with one lane closed and Stewart Road remained open with one lane closed while the crash was being investigated.   

It is unknown if alcohol and drug usage are a factor in the crash. Both occupants in the Lexus were wearing their seatbelts and the driver of the GMC was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
