Princeville, Eureka, Lewistown, Illini West, Hall earn top sub-sectional seeds

Five Journal Star-area teams earned top spots when the Illinois High School Association announced sectional seeding results for Class 1A and 2A girls basketball on Thursday.

Postseason play for small-school girls basketball is two weeks away and Princeville, Eureka, Lewistown, Illini West and Hall begin atop their sub-sectionals.

Princeville and Lewistown, which met in last year's Class 1A sectional semifinals, are in opposite sub-sectionals this year. The two could meet in a sectional championship at Bushnell-Prairie City this season. Brimfield earned a second seed in Princeville's sub-sectional and Illini Bluffs is seeded second in Lewistown's sub-sectional.

Elsewhere in Class 1A, Wethersfield is the second sub-sectional seed behind the defending champions, Annawan. Winners of the two regionals will feed the Hinckley-Big Rock Sectional.

In Class 2A, Eureka is the top seed in its sub-sectional followed by El Paso-Gridley and Midwest Central. Farmington and Knoxville are the second and third seeds, respectively, behind Illini West in the other sub-sectional. The winners of the two sides will meet in the Farmington Sectional championship.

Hall is the top seed in its sub-sectional and is followed by Fieldcrest, Putnam County and Bureau Valley. Winners of the two regionals will play at the Bureau Valley Sectional.

Regional pairings are expected to be released around 4 p.m. Friday by the IHSA. For a full list of sub-sectional seeds (JS-area sub-sectionals below) and pairings, visit IHSA.org.
