Naval officers, sailors and Defence Security Corps (DSC) jawans presented an impressive ceremonial parade at INS Parundu, the naval air station at Uchipuli, as Commanding Officer Capt. Kuldeep H. Tanksale hoisted the national flag on the occasion of the 69th Republic Day on Friday.
For the second successive year since the commissioning of the naval air station in 2009, the public and school and college students were allowed to join the celebrations. They witnessed the parade and march-past presented by 30 naval officers, 150 sailors and 50 DSC jawans.
Addressing the gathering after inspecting the guard of honour followed by the march-past, Capt. Tanksale said safeguarding the country’s boundaries was the duty and responsibility of every citizen and urged youth to respond to the national cause.
At the Mandapam station of Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Commandant N. Venkatesan, Station Commander, hoisted the national flag and inspected the march-past, presented by about 60 officers and men, and received guard of honour. Commandant Ankuar, Squadron Commander, Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) Squadron, officers and men were present on the occasion.
At the district court here, Principal District Judge A. Kayalvizhi unfurled the national flag and distributed prizes to the winners of Pongal festival. She also hoisted the tri-colour at District Legal Services Office. Chief Judicial Magistrate T.V. Anil Kumar, Additional District Judge D. Lingeswaran, Judicial Magistrate I G. Isakkiappan, District Munsiff K.S. Rajesh Kumar and Sub-Judge M. Preetha were present.
S. Subbiah, Vice-Chancellor, Alagappa University, Karaikudi, hoisted the national flag in the university and accepted the guard of honour presented by students and security personnel. He exhorted the students to cherish the memories of the freedom struggle and work in unison to make the country a superpower.
H. Gurumallesh Prabu, Registrar, and A. Narayanamoorthy, K. Gurunathan and S. Murugaraj, members of the Syndicate, were present.
On KIT & KIM Technical Campus at Karaikudi, V. Ayyappan, college chairman, hoisted the national flag. At Thassim Beevi Abdul Kader College for Women, Kilakarai, T.M. Abdul Kader, former head of the department of Tamil, Islamiyah College, hoisted the national flag. Rahmathunisa Abdul Kader, Correspondent, and Sumayaa, Principal, were present.
