Geje Eustaquio seeks payback vs Kazakh

MANILA, Philippines — Geje Eustaquio vows to put his striking skills on display as he guns for the interim flyweight world crown against Kairat Akhmetov of Kazakhstan tonight in the ONE Championship: Global Superheroes at the MOA Arena in Pasay.

Eustaquio, toting a 9-6 (win-loss) record, is actually seeking to avenge his three-round split decision defeat to Akhamatov, who boasts of a 21-6 mark, the last time out with the former also banking on the hometown crowd for inspiration and added motivation.

“I’ve trained and prepared hard for this re-match and going into the cage more confident this time,” said the Team Lakay bet, who will be relying more on his striking skills.

While Akhmetov had beaten Eustaquio, the former insists he’s the underdog.

“I’m playing in the Philippines, that’s my disadvantage,” said Akhmetov through an interpreter.

Eustaquio also thinks the match scheduled to be a five-rounder, will be favorable for him.
