Poor pitch and weather conditions forced the third day's play to stop as South Africa ended at 17/1 at stumps in the third and final Test match at Wanderers. Mohammed Shami took the only wicket as he sent Aiden Markram back to dressing room cheaply. Earlier, India played with intent and gave South Africa a 241-run target in the third and final Test match at the Wanderers on Friday. At lunch, Murali Vijay and Virat Kohli took India ahead with their patient batting and added runs to the board. However, Rabada cleaned up Vijay at the stroke of lunch. In the second session of the game, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane scored briskly and extended India's lead. Both Kohli and Rahane looked solid but an absolute jaffa from Rabada struck the top of Kohli's off-stump leaving the batsman clueless. However, Rahane and Bhuvneshwar strung together a 55-run partnership as India inched towards the 200-run mark lead. Post tea, India lost Rahane early as he fell two short of his half-century but were steadied by some lusty blows from Shami which left the Proteas frustrated. While Shami clobbered the pacers for boundaries at will, Bhuvneshwar held the wicket from the other end. Shami, being too ambitious, pulled an Ngidi short delivery to de Villiers at deep square leg which put the onus on Bhuvneshwar to score runs. After Shami and Bhuvneshwar's 35-run partnership was broken, the Indian innings wrapped up quickly. While South Africa will aim to bat out the third day without losing any wicket, India will hope to put the visitors on the back foot by sending the opposition top order back. (Scorecard)

Can South Africa survive the day? India hold all the aces at the moment. Want swing? Have Bhuvi. Want lateral movement? Shami is present. Want bounce? Ishant is there. Want someone to fool the batsmen with his action? Bumrah is the man. And want a wicket when nothing is happening? Hardik can do that. Exciting, exciting run chase coming up.
South Africa, on the other hand, seemed to lose focus on the game. They were probably trying too hard, did get a couple of wickets early but then were frustrated by Kohli and Vijay. The fielding side would have wanted this game to end and hence a barricade of short stuff ensued but the visitors were too good for them. Philander, Rabada and Morkel picked up 3 wickets each but perhaps at a cost of an extra 100 runs.
India have done exceedingly well to reach close to 250, when they needed around 100 less. The pitch is spitting but the batsmen hung in there. After a long time, one could witness a collective effort from the batsmen. Rahul and Pujara fell early this morning, but Vijay, Kohli, Rahane, Kumar and Shami - all fought hard and took the innings into the third session. At one stage, there were talks of the game being abandoned due to a poor pitch but India have shown great mental and physical grit.

OUT! SA NEED 241 TO WIN. It just needed one delivery with the second new cherry to dismantle the last wicket stand. Landed outside off, almost like a loosener, 125 kph, Bumrah backs away a touch and looks to drag it to the leg side but he gets a top edge. The ball goes straight up in the air and Kagiso Rabada calmly takes it at mid on. Three wickets for Philander too.
