NATIONAL SUMMARY

Much of the eastern half of the nation will be free of rain

and snow today. Exceptions will be spotty rain showers along

the Atlantic coast in South Florida and from South Texas to

part of Arkansas. Warmth will surge across the Midwest on

gusty winds, while temperatures are forecast to rebound

markedly in the Northeast with the aid of sunshine. Winds

may be strong enough in the Midwest to cause sporadic power

outages and airline delays. Cooler air will spread eastward

over the Plains. Snow is in store for parts of the northern
