Gymnastics: Cards fall short in Willmar

The Alexandria gymnastics team took home some season high team scores on Thursday night when the team travelled to Willmar, but it wasn’t enough to grab a victory. Willmar won the meet, 146.650-135.925.

The Cardinals started off the meet by setting season records on the bars and the vault. Senior Joslyn Kent came in second on the bars with an 8.85 score. Freshman Rachel Boyden took third on bars with a score of 8.825.

Kent took fourth place overall on vault with a score of 9.05. Sophomore Caitlin Bright took fifth on vault after scoring 8.9.

“The Cardinal floor rotation was lower than the past few meets, but the gymnasts rallied to finish strong on beam,” assistant coach Nichole Boyden said.

Kent took fifth place on the beam with an 8.95 and ended in third place in the all around with 35.250 points. Boyden took fourth in the all around with 34.525 and junior Sydney Gray took fifth all around with 34.175.

“The gymnasts are already looking forward to their last home meet and last regular season matchup,” Nichole Boyden said.

The Cardinals host Sartell on Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. before heading to the Central Lakes Conference championship meet on Feb. 10 at St. Cloud Tech High School. CLC championship competition begins at 1 p.m.
