Javi Gracia has admitted he does not know how long he will last

The Spaniard took over on Sunday from the axed Marco Silva becoming their ninth manager in the last six years.

But the 47-year-old admits he is making no long-term plans at Vicarage Road, after signing an 18-month deal.

“You don’t know what happened in the other situations but I am confident I am different and can do it,” he said.

“I’d like to be here a long time but I don’t know. Coaches’ lives depend on many things. I am confident. But you never know what happens in the future.

“I think Watford is a nice place and Watford is really good club and I really feel very comfortable. People are very nice. We need to get good results because the coach leave due to results.

Gracia has no control over transfers and admits he doesn’t know whether captain Troy Deeney will be sold.

“I don’t know what happens with players’ situations,” he said.

“Maybe one of them will go out. Maybe others go in. I don’t know. I signed my contract and my contract says I am the coach. That is all I can say.”

Gracia’s first game is an Fa Cup trip to Southampton tomorrow.

And Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino admits he has taken a £19m punt on Guido Carrillo.

The 26-year-old striker has agreed to join from Monaco on a four-year deal.

But Pellegrino, who managed him at Estudiantes as a teenager, said: “It’s really difficult to sign players at this level, the top level.

“When you move from one player to the other everything changes, the team-mates, the culture, the methodology of the manager.

“Sometimes for some of them it’s better, sometimes the same, sometimes it’s worse.

“In one year’s time maybe we can analyse, but now it’s difficult.”

Saints are still in talks with Spartak Moscow over a club record £30m swoop for Dutch winger Quincy Promes.
