BEALLSVILLE - Shenandoah High senior Taylor Franklin eclipsed the 1,000-point mark in career scoring in the Lady Zeps’ 45-36 road victory against Beallsville on Thursday.
Franklin entered the game with 999 points and finished the night with seven markers to run her career total to 1,006.
"Taylor has put in a lot of time and work and she’s very deserving of becoming only the fourth or fifth 1,000-point scorer at Shenandoah," said Lady Zeps’ coach Sean Beskid. "She’s a great athlete, but an even better person.
"She didn’t have a big night scoring like she did Wednesday (Franklin had 33 against Frontier), but she’s a very unselfish player and contributed in a lot of ways," he added.
Shenandoah (13-4) led 11-6 after one quarter before Beallsville started chipping away, using an 8-7 edge in the second period to get within 18-14 at the half and then using a 13-10 edge in the third chapter to make it 28-27 entering the final frame.
The Lady Zeps finished strong, however, outscoring the Lady Blue Devils 17-9 over the final eight minutes to earn the victory.
"We missed a lot of easy shots early," said Beskid, "but we settled down and played well in the fourth quarter and made our foul shots."
Molli Carter tallied 12 points to lead the Lady Zeps, with Dani Dimmerling also in double-digits with 10. Franklin followed with seven markers while Faith Dimmerling and Jacie Clifton each had six.
The Lady Zeps were 15-of-53 from the field and 12-of-22 at the foul line iwth 30 rebounds and 14 turnovers. Carter led the rebounders with seven while Dani Dimmerling had six; Franklin notched four steals and Carter and Brooklyn May each had three assists.
Ashley Louden topped Beallsville with 12 tallies while Ashley Howell and Olivia Muncy each had nine.
Frontier 51, Caldwell 50
CALDWELL — Visiting Frontier High pulled out a 51-50 victory over Caldwell in girls’ Pioneer Valley Conference action on Thursday.
Frontier jumped out to a 14-7 lead after one quarter, but Caldwell caught fire and outscored the Lady Cougars by a 21-12 margin in the second round to move in front, 28-26, at the intermission. An 11-10 edge in the third period gave Caldwell a 39-36 lead heading to the final chapter, but Frontier gained a 15-11 edge to pull out the victory.
Logan Haught poured in 20 points to lead Frontier. Kylie Daugherty contributed 14 tallies and Haley Bills added 11.
For Caldwell (5-10, 2-5 PVC)(, Julia Griffith led the way with a dozen points followed by Megan Zwick with nine, with Cayton Secrest and Mariah Ackley each scoring eight.
Caldwell finished with 34 rebounds, with Secrest collecting nine, and 21 turnovers. Cloe siddle dished out six assists and Secrest had four steals.
The Lady Redskins had a tough night at the foul line, making just six of 19 attempts.
