The Breast Immunology Laboratory is newly established at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA, as part of an initiative to be the preeminent breast tumor immunology/immunotherapy program in the country. This laboratory will bridge the clinical breast oncology program with the basic and translation breast cancer immunology laboratory efforts at Dana-Farber under the supervision of the new Director of the Breast Immuno-Oncology Program, Elizabeth Mittendorf, MD, PhD and the new Director of the Breast Immunology Laboratory, Jennifer Guerriero, PhD, respectively.
Drs. Mittendorf and Guerriero are looking for a qualified postdoctoral candidate interested in studying the breast tumor microenvironment, specifically the adaptive immune system. A high priority will be put on understanding resistance to T-cell immunotherapy, identification of novel immunotherapy targets, linking pre-clinical work to clinical trials, correlating clinical trial outcomes with changes in the tumor microenvironment and analyzing untreated tumors to inform pre-clinical work. The laboratory will have an emphasis on translating laboratory findings into clinical trials.
The successful candidate will be expected to lead and develop independent projects, supervise technicians, and work in conjunction with other post-doctoral fellows at Dana-Farber, The Broad Institute and Harvard Medical School. Specific studies include the development and validation of short term culture systems using murine or patient derived tumors, extensive analysis of the breast tumor microenvironment and in vivo experiments to study mechanisms of response to T cell immunotherapy to guide the development of combination therapies.
The successful candidate must have a MD, PhD and/or MD/PhD degree with several years of relevant experience in immunology and immunotherapy and be highly motivated. The applicant should have a strong background in breast cancer biology and prior experience working with mouse or human tissues, including familiarity with tissue processing and analysis. Proficiency in fluorescence and basic microscopy, standard molecular biology techniques and cell culture is necessary.
