Vikings season 5: Who's returning? What do the actors look like in real life?
VIKINGS fans were left devastated by a bloody and shocking mid-season finale this week. A number of characters were killed and there was a major shift in power. So who will be returning for the rest of season 5? What do the actors look like in real life?
What happened in Vikings season 5, episode 10?
One of the series' most dramatic episodes to date, Moment of Vision was dominated by bloody battle scenes.
Queen Lagertha (played by Katheryn Winnick) lost her power as her forces were overcome by Ivar the Boneless (Alex Høgh) and his army.
Ivar finally got his revenge on Lagertha for killing his mother Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and the once powerful queen was reduced to a traumatised, catatonic wreck after her defeat and after killing her former lover Astrid (Josefin Ashland) on the battlefield.
Snaefrid (Dagny Backer Johnsen) and her forces were killed while Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) begged Eyvind (Kris Holden-Ried) to end the violence and not seek revenge for his son’s murder.
The episode ended with a shot of Rollo (Clive Standen) sailing back into Kattegat Harbour.
Who will be returning to Vikings season 5?
Episode 10 saw the deaths of some major characters including Astrid (Josefin Asplund) and Halfdan (Jasper Pääkkönen).
US network History released a 20-second clip from episode 11 teasing at what’s to come next.
The video dropped after last night’s midseason finale and episode 10 - Moments of Vision - and started off with The Seer (John Kavanagh) ominously saying: “The war is not over.”
As yet more scenes of carnage play out with two armies confronting each other on the battlefield.
We then see Ivar sitting on a throne as he proclaims to a crowd: “People of Kattegat, we have a great sacrifice - this is Lagertha.”
This means that the unthinkable has happened and Lagertha is Ivar’s prisoner.

When is Vikings season 5 back?
The second part of the fifth season will be dropping later this year, but an official release date has not been confirmed just yet.
Previous production schedules hint that it will be released this year - for season four, the mid season finale aired on April 21 2016 and returned on November 30 the same year.
Based on the show’s history of mid-season breaks, it’s fairly safe to say that we can expect season five to resume around August of this year.
Speaking about what will happen in the second half of season five, series creator Michael Hirst told Variety: “With Ivar having defeated his brothers and gained Kattegat, some of the heroes end up in Wessex seeking safety from Ivar. This season is very much Ivar in ascendant.”
