A teen had a drastic way to avoid being caught by deputies on Monday: plunging into a lake.

Deputies in Iredell County were called to a cul-de-sac on Old Post Road in Mooresville because of reports of a suspicious vehicle. Once there, they found a black van near the boat docks on Lake Norman, and eventually found 20-year-old Robert Taylor Moore on the docks.

Moore told officials he was in the area smoking marijuana with his friend, 19-year-old Christopher James Werner.

Deputies tried finding Werner, but discovered he had jumped into Lake Norman to hide from officials, according to a press release.

Werner eventually came out of the water, and paramedics were called because he was “extremely cold,” according to the release.

Officials searched the black van and found $6,800 worth of marijuana, the release said. Deputies also found small bags they believe were used to package and sale the marijuana.

Both Moore and Werner were arrested. Moore was charged with possession of marijuana. Werner faces several felony charges, including possession with intent to sell marijuana.
