DOVER - Flight Coffee has announced a new live music series with the mission of creating a warm, intimate performance environment that is accessible to musicians of all ages.
The Flight Artist Spotlight Series has scheduled nine nights of performances, featuring local favorites such as Jon McCormack, Tim McCoy, River Sister, Stuart Young, The Josh Gagnon Quartet, The Couriers, Darren Hawe and Dogs that Know They’re Dogs. The series will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 10 with a full night performance by local folk-rock band Martin England and the Reconstructed.
Many of the Artist Spotlight performances will feature one or more young musicians from the Seacoast area. Currently scheduled are Alex Lomartire, the band Apollo, and a full night of performances by students of the Musical Arts of Dover School.
“All-ages is extremely important to us,” says Kelly Bower, the café’s new owner. “I feel like we can make a difference in the community by hosting shows that start early, in a family-friendly environment, with reasonable volume levels.”
Flight routinely hosts a monthly open mic night which has recently ballooned in popularity, and its success gave Bower the idea to expand the music program.
“This is something I’ve wanted to do since purchasing the café – and we’re committed to investing in this. The community has responded in such a positive way already. We posted our idea on social media, and were flooded with interested performers," Bower said. "I am confident we are on the right path.”
