NEW DELHI: None of the Indian Police Service officials posted on deputation with the Central Bureau of Investigation have been awarded police medals on Republic Day this year.
In all, 27 agency officials have been honoured: six of them got President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service while the others got Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
Additional Superintendents of Police Joe Sunil Emmanuel and Rohit Srivastava; Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Roshan Lal Yadav; Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) V. Kavidas; and Head Constables Raghuvender Singh, and Harpal Singh Virk have been awarded the medials for distinguished service.
The medal for meritorious service has been conferred on Superintendent of Police Jagroop S. Gusinha; DSPs V. Narendra Deve, Ajay Kranti Sharma, Mayukh Maitra, Jitendra Kumar; Inspectors Rajender Singh, Bodh Raj, Vijay Bahadur, Y. Ramakrishanan, Sanjay Kant Jha; ASIs Gurmeet Singh, Ballabh Prasad and Chaman Lal; Head Constables Jagpal Singh, Babu Ram, Sushil Kumar and K.P. Singh; Constables Lakhan Singh and Bharat Bhushan Sharma; Crime Assistant K.P. Sathy Devi and Personal Assistant Rajeev Kumar.
Last year, the Home Ministry had tightened the criteria for the awards. The government fixed an upper limit of three recommendations for Group A officials, stating that if anyone did not get the award despite three recommendations, there should be no further nomination.
A guideline issued in August 2017 said annual confidential reports (ACRs) for the past 10 years would be considered for the medals. A minimum service of 25 years is required for all police officials, irrespective of rank and service. “Police officers not having clean image should not be recommended,” it said.
At least five ACRs should be “outstanding” and a minimum of three “very good” for the Distinguished Service medal. For Meritorious Service medal, the guideline said, a minimum of eight “very good” and at least one “outstanding” ACR are necessary.
