A strong contingent of Steamboat Springs skiers will compete later this winter in the World Junior Championship events in Switzerland.

A group of four ski jumpers and Nordic combined skiers will compete in Kandersteg, Switzerland starting Saturday. Another will race in the Alpine Junior World Championships in Davos, Switzerland.

Steamboat Springs jumpers Logan Sankey, 19, and Annika Belshaw, 15, will both compete in the women's ski jumping events along with three other athletes, Cara Larson from Barrington, Illinois, Samantha Macuga, from Park City, Utah, and Anna Hoffman, from Madison Wisconsin.

Steamboat's Decker Dean, 17, will then compete in the men's ski jump events, along with Casey Larson, from Barrington, Andrew Urlaub, from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Hunter Gibson, from Fox River Grove, Illinois,  and Patrick Gasienica, from Richmond, Illinois.

Steamboat Springs skier Tess Arnone, 15, will then get a unique opportunity to compete in the girls Nordic combined event. It's an exhibition event this year, the first time a girls world championship has ever been contested but is expected to be included as a full event next season.

She'll be the only U.S. skier in that race. On the boys side, the team is made up largely of Park City skiers. Ben Loomis, from Eau Claire, and Stephen Schumann, from Park City, are both members of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team. Jared Schumate and Tucker Hoefler, both of Park City, will also compete.

The Alpine championships will run Monday through Feb. 8. Steamboat will be represented by Jett Seymour, who is both competing as a freshman on the NCAA ski team at University of Denver and as a member of the U.S. Ski Team this season.

He was one of 16 athletes named to the squad.
