Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav lambasted the Yogi Adityanath government for deteriorating law and order and questioned how next month’s Investors Meet could be successful in the present scenario.
“Law and order in the state is very bad. Investors know about UP through their interaction in social media and media coverage. There is a big question as to why investors would invest in the state where the government has failed to control law and order,” Akhilesh said while speaking to media persons in Lucknow on Thursday.
The SP chief hailed the government for organising ‘UP Diwas’ but said that the Chief Minister should have shown a resolve to improve law and order at a function where Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu suggested banning of all arms licences and even called for better law and order in the state.
“The festival of Holi is coming up and the government should burn all firearms on the suggestion of the Vice-president,” he said.
Giving details of recent criminal incidents in the state, Akhilesh said that reports of killings and murder were pouring in from across the state. “The situation in Lucknow is so bad that criminals were openly killing people and looting valuables. During the last Assembly election, the BJP claimed that all police stations were being being manned by SP leaders. But now who is controlling these police stations ? The SP is not in power so why has the BJP not been able to control crime,” he asked.
Akhilesh said that BJP leaders do not want improvement in law and order and were hence patronaising criminals. “Recently a dreaded criminal Kallia was arrested in Ferozabad. The CM should tell the mases who was the BJP leader who was patronining the criminal and whose gymnasium he used to frequent,” he said.
When asked about the new DGP, the SP chief said that he was a good officer but the problem was whether BJP workers would allow him to work with a freee hand.
Akhilesh also targeted the BJP government for initiating probes in UPPSC and other developmental projects along with quizzing of senior SP leader Azam Khan.
Several BSP leaders, including former legislators Babban Singh Chauhan, Chhabi Nath Chauhan, Chote Lal Gangwar, Dinesh Nishad along with with their supporters joined the SP in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav.
