THURSDAY'S PREPS: Louisa-Muscatine sweeps three duals

Louisa-Muscatine High School's wrestling team swept all three of its duals on the home mat at Letts Thursday night, beating Pekin 48-33, New London 42-33 and Mediapolis 39-34.

Pekin defeated New London 43-20 and Mediapolis 45-29.

New London coach Mark Chiri picked up his 399th career victory when his Tigers topped Mediapolis 39-29.

Louisa-Muscatine's Gabe Hayes pinned two opponents in a combined 26 seconds at 285 pounds, then was pinned by Mediapolis's Brennan Breuer in two minutes. The Falcons' Chase Kruse (132) won on a fall and a decision. Austin Cook (106) and Cody Calvelage (126), Max McCulley (138) and Hunter Conner (182) each pinned one opponent. All other L-M match victories were by forfeit.

New London 132-pounder Samuel Loyd pinned all three of his opponents. Javis Krieger at 138 won on two falls and a technical fall. Gabe Carter (152) and Gavin Holmes (160) each won two matches on a fall and a decision. Cameron Raines (170) and Owen Reed (285) each won a match by fall and Jaxon Allen won a decision.

Mediapolis's Brennan Breuer and Brennan Swafford didn't let their opponents go the distance. Breuer pinned all three of his opponents at 285 pounds. Swafford won his three matches on a fall and two technical falls. The Bulldogs' Jordan Riherd (106) and Caden Benz (145) each won a fall and a decision. Colter Inghram (126) and Hunter Aney (152) each won a decision.

Falcons win 2 of 3

WACO swept all three of its duals and West Burlington-Notre Dame/Danville went 2-1 at Wayland.

WACO defeated Van Buren 39-30, Wapello 36-25 and West Burlington-Notre Dame/Danville 33-30. WB-ND/D beat Wapello 48-30 and Van Buren 36-22. In the only other dual, Wapello topped Van Buren 36-24.

Four WACO wrestlers were triple winners. Robert Frazier, wrestling at 132 and 138 pounds, and Bryce Crawford (152-160) each won a fall, a decision and a forfeit. Cody Crawford (285) pinned one opponent and won twice on forfeits. Landon Provino (195-220) won three forfeits.

West Burlington-Notre Dame/Danville's Caleb LaLonde (152), Tucker Moore (170), Cole Jarrett (182) and Dreyton LaVeine (195) each picked up three victories. LaLonde won a fall and two forfeits, Moore and Jarrett each won two falls and a forfeit and LaVeine won three forfeits. Mitchell Drexel (145) and Drake Smith (160) each won a match by fall.

Wapello's Kolby Huxley (170) pinned two of his three opponents. Chase Witte (106) and Mitchell Moore (132) each won a match by fall. Daniel Meeker (126) won a major decision. All other Wapello match victories were by forfeit.

Van Buren's Caleb Stoltz (145) won on a fall and two forfeits. Tayton Bartholomew won a major decision and two forfeits. Spencer Stoltz (170) and Connor Helling (182) each pinned an opponent.

Wildcats win 2 of 3

Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union won two of three dual meets, beating Lone Tree 72-12 and Cardinal 63-11. Highland topped the Wildcats 42-33.

Jared Kadel, Tucker Bright, Cam Rice, Chance Malone and Jorge Miranda each posted three wins for Columbus/W-MU. Kadel won on a fall and two forfeits at 106 pounds. Bright (120) won a decision, a fall and a forfeit. Rice (132-138) won on two falls and a forfeit. Malone (182) won a fall and two forfeits. Miranda won all three of his matches by forfeit at 220 pounds.

Alberto Lagunas (195) and Jose Cereza each picked up two wins for the Wildcats.

Bloodhounds sweep

Fort Madison swept two duals on its home mat, topping Kirksville, Missouri, 48-17 and Centerville 56-17.

The Bloodhounds' Elton Kruse at 106 pounds and Dayne Cordray (120) each won a decision and a fall. Also winning a match by fall were Ryan Steffensmeier (126), Aaron Steffensmeier (145), Harlan Steffensmeier (152), Lennon Barker (182) and Dalton Mabeus (285). Chance Hocker (170) won one match by technical fall. Danen Settles won a decision.

Keokuk falls twice

Keokuk lost two duals at Washington, falling to Oskaloosa 33-30 and to Williamsburg 70-9.

Jerry Glenn at 285 pounds and Matt Wyatt (138) each posted two wins for Keokuk. Glenn won a fall and a forfeit. Wyatt won a decision and a forfeit. Dylan Jeffers (160) and Austin Tibbits (195) each picked up single victories by falls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Mediapolis 58, Mid-Prairie 57

Mid-Prairie controlled the ball the final 20 seconds, but the Mediapolis defense prevented the Golden Hawks from getting a shot off and preserved a non-conference victory at Wellman.

Will Schroeder led Mediapolis with 22 points. Nick Ensminger scored 14 and Ben Wolgemuth added 11 points and eight rebounds. The Bulldogs' Brady Pfeiff had five assists.

Mediapolis (6-8) hosts Highland in a SEI Superconference North Division game tonight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

West Hancock 77, Macomb 55

Emma Knipe poured in 30 points to lead the Titans to victory over Macomb at Hamilton, Illinois.

Kailee Pfeiferling scored 12 points and Lexi Carel added 10 for West Hancock. Gracie Boyles scored eight points and Bailey Hollis had seven.

Ericka Dawson paced the Bombers with 10 points. Sophie Whitford, Jordyn Hare and Reagan Emerick each scored eight points.

BOWLING

Panthers split

Mount Pleasant split a pair of bowling duals with Fairfield at Mount Pleasant. The Panther girls topped Fairfield, 2,060-1,883. Fairfield's boys beat Mount Pleasant, 2,698-2,586.

Alexis Wohlleber led the Mount Pleasant girls with a 147-177—324 series. Emily Shumaker rolled a 285 and was followed by Kelsey Hummell (257), Gillian Anderson (235), Tylisa Kelley (206) and Meadow Jensen (188).

Brandon Parton rolled a 208-216—424 to pace the Mount Pleasant boys. Sam Anderson had 349 and was followed by Tristan Dirth (326), Levi Mills (324), Ethan Oilar (292) and Mark Steinhoff (258).

West Central lost a bowling dual with A-Town at Tombstone Bowl in Monmouth, Illinois.
