Authorities are seeking the public’s help in finding a man accused of shooting a cab driver on Thursday.

The incident took place in the 7600 block of Garners Ferry Road around 11:30 p.m., said Lt. Curtis Wilson, spokesman for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The driver, a woman who has not been identified, was rushed to the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Wilson said the driver picked up a man on Garners Ferry Road, who asked to be taken to Apple Valley Road. The man later said he forgot his wallet and needed to be taken back to Garners Ferry Road. The driver followed the man in hopes of getting her fare, when he pulled out a gun and demanded her purse and cash, Wilson said.

The man then fired several shots at the driver, striking her in the lower body.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call 888-CRIME-SC.
