Chelsea odds slashed to sign Arsenal star in January

CHELSEA have seen their odds slashed by the bookies to sign Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.

are in the market for a new striker this month as Antonio Conte looks to provide competition for £60m summer signing Alvaro Morata.

The Spaniard hit the ground running with six goals in his opening six league games but has found the back of the net just once in his last six outings.

Reports surfaced this morning that Chelsea have identified target man Giroud as the man to add more firepower to their frontline.

And bookmakers Betfair have responded by slashing Chelsea’s odds from 7/1 to 4/1 to bring the France international to Stamford Bridge before the January window shuts.

Giroud has struggled for game time this season following the £52m arrival of record signing Alexandre Lacazette in the summer.

The 31-year-old, who has been out of action with a hamstring injury in recent weeks, has started just one Premier League game this term.

Despite Giroud’s lack of football, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes to keep the former Montpellier man at the north London club.

And Giroud won’t be going anywhere unless Wenger signs a replacement, with the Gunners said to be lining up a move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

"I want Olivier to stay," Wenger said. "If nobody comes in, nobody goes out.

"Maybe one or two young players out on loan but the experienced side of the squad stays.

"The experienced players will stay the same unless new players come in."
