Azerbaijan state-owned regional operator BTRIB, working in the city of Baku and its surroundings, has expanded the coverage of its GPON network. Around 30,000 households are able to connect to the network, and approximately 5,000 households already use services over the GPON technology.

A pilot project on GPON services has been carried out in the area serviced by the Yasamal telecommunications node of the operator in a neighbourhood in Baku.

The operator also plans to launch commercial LTE services in March. Two settlements in suburbs of the capital city are covered by the LTE network, and the number of LTE base stations will be expanded gradually. The expansion of the network is focused on the outskirts of the capital city, where it is difficult to deploy fibre-optic lines.

BTRIB provides IPTV, telephony and internet services over ADSL, as well as telecommunications services on the basis of the CDMA technology.
