I SEE the puritans at Balance are again campaigning to set a minimum price for alcohol (Echo, Jan 24), thereby penalising the vast majority of responsible drinkers, in order to target a few problem drinkers who often need medical support rather than harassment.

Balance is supported in this campaign by the police who stress how many underage drinkers obtain cheap alcohol and then congregate and indulge in antisocial behaviour.

I really think such single issue organisations such as Balance need to stretch their horizons a little.

Perhaps go out on a Friday night pub crawl, make new friends and lighten up a little.

Last time I looked the purchase and consumption of alcohol to adults is perfectly legal and as grown-ups we should be free to make our own lifestyle decisions.

As far as the police are concerned, they should get out on to the streets and stop the sale of alcohol to children.
