RJD chief Lalu Prasad currently lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail after having convicted in fodder scam cases, warned people to be alert as democracy seems to be in danger following regular attacks made by a particular party.
Prasad was speaking to mediapersons after appearing in Special CBI Court here in connection with another fodder scam case RC47A/96, related to fraudulent withdrawal from Doranda Treasury on Thursday.
“Though democracy in India is strong, but regular attacks on democracy and Constitution is being made by a particular political party, hence there is a need to remain alert,” said Prasad. He also referred to the Supreme Court judges, who have expressed their views in this regard.
Prasad asked his men to rejoice Republic Day in a proper way. He, however, refused to comment on his move against his recent conviction in RC68A/96, related to Chaibasa Treasury and said that his lawyers could say anything in this regard.
Prasad’s supporters and counsel alleged that the prosecution did not produce witness on Thursday in connection with the case causing a delay in the case.
“Even though, Laluji has been cooperating by appearing physically in the case regularly, the prosecution is deliberately delaying the trial by not producing its witnesses,” said Prasad’s advocate Anant Kumar Vij. The Supreme Court has directed to dispose the case of by February 8, he added.
Prasad’s close aide Bhola Yadav also alleged that even after the directions of the Supreme Court to expedite the case and dispose it by February 8, it was being delayed deliberately by the CBI for unknown reasons. Prasad is presently lodged in Birsa Munda Central Jail after a special CBI Court of Shiv Pal Singh on January 6, pronounced 3.5 years’ jail and also slapped a fine of `10 lakh for him in fodder scam case RC64A/96, related to fraudulent withdrawal from Deoghar treasury during 1991 to 1994. Again on Wednesday, he was sentenced for five years and slapped a fine of `10 lakh in another fodder scam case RC68A/96, related to fraudulent withdrawal of `33.67 crore from Chaibasa Treasury during 1992-93.
