Mumbai Kamala Mills Fire: Fresh arrest made in the case

Mumbai: The NM Joshi Marg police arrested one more person in the Kamala Mills fire incident on Wednesday night. Sayyed alias Shehzad Mumtaz Ali (22), who was serving hookah at Mojo’s Bistro, was arrested on Wednesday from his residence at Mansarovar near Navi Mumbai.

He was produced before the Bhoiwada Magistrate court on Thursday and remanded to police custody uptil January 29.
Rajendra Baban Patil, the arrested fire officer and Ravi Bhandari, the Director of Kamala Mills was produced before the Bhoiwada court and sent to judicial custody till January 29. Utkarsh Pandey, who supplied hookah at Mojo’s istro has been remanded to police custody till January 29.

Public Prosecutor Sanjay Wadhwane argued before Magistrate V.B.Bohra that the police custody of Pandey was required since cops needed to interrogate him further since more arrests are yet to be made in the case. As per the remand copy, the police custody of Bhandari was required for a joint interrogation along with the arrested accused Ramesh Govani, the owner of Kamala Mills.


The defense advocate representing Pandey argued that Pandey, a Bachelor of Law (LLB) student should be allowed to give a contract paper LLB exam at Ghaziabad on January 27 since he had already appeared for the other papers. Pandey’s bail application will be heard on January 29.

Meanwhile, the bail application of the accused Jigar Sanghvi, Kripesh Sanghvi, owners of 1Above and their partner Abhijit Mankar have been rejected. The bail application of Yug Tuli and Yug Pathak, owners of Mojo’s were also rejected by the court on Thursday. Public Prosecutor Sanjay Wadhwane stated that the accused might tamper with evidence after being released. The owners of 1Above and Mojo’s Bistro will be moving the sessions court on Monday to apply for bail.
