The CW has picked up two new drama pilots, the “Charmed” reboot from “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Urman and the supernatural police drama “Dead Inside” from executive producer Bill Lawrence.
The “Charmed” reboot, which was originally developed last cycle and passed on by the network, is described as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series” and will center on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches.
Urman will executive produce and has a story credit on the pilot, written by “Jane” alums Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin. Ben Silverman and director Brad Silberling will also serve as executive producers on the pilot from CBS Television Studios.

The reboot is just the latest to hit broadcast networks as they look to past successes to fill out their programming schedules. Last fall, NBC brought back “Will & Grace” to much success, and ABC aims to do the same with the “Roseanne” reboot premiering in March. CBS announced on Wednesday that it had given a 13-episode order to a revival of “Murphy Brown” with original star Candice Bergen.
“Dead Inside” is written by Katie Lovejoy follows an underachieving beat cop who survived the explosion that killed her hotshot detective brother. When she starts seeing his ghost, their sibling dynamic is flipped on its head as they work together to help crime victims both living and dead, and figure out the unfinished business keeping his spirit on Earth.
Lawrence will executive produce with Jeff Ingold of his Doozer production banner on the Warner Bros. Television pilot.
