Rallies taken out on Voters’ Day

Youth asked to enrol as voters, exercise franchise

Meetings and rallies highlighting the essence of voting, the cornerstone of democracy, were held on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day in Khammam and Kamareddy districts on Thursday.

Students, employees and people from different spheres took out a voter awareness rally from Pavilion Grounds to the Zilla Parishad office in Khammam. The rally culminated in a meeting at the ZP conference hall.

Principal District and Sessions Judge M. Lakshman and District Collector D.S. Lokesh Kumar elucidated the importance of voting in a democracy.

Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal, the ZP CEO M. Nagesh and others were present.

The officials presented prizes to the winners of essay writing and other competitions earlier organised by various government departments to spread awareness on voting rights among students.

The NSS volunteers of the SR&BGNR Government Degree and PG College took out a voter awareness rally in the town.

2-K Run in Kamareddy

Kamareddy district administration conducted a 2K run in connection with the 8th National Voters’ Day. District Collector N. Satyanarayana flagged off the run and participated in it. He asked the officials to ensure the enrollment of all youth in the voters’ list. He called upon the youth to use the vote as per their wish and conscience. Joint Collector S. Sathaiah said the Voters’ Day was being celebrated every year since 2011 to create awareness among all citizens on the value of vote and significance of participation in elections by all. Superintendent of Police N. Swetha said India has become a vibrant democracy as it provided adult franchise to its citizens irrespective of caste, creed, religion, region or gender.
