Top judge halts distribution of 24 water firms

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday halted nation-wide distribution of 24 mineral water.

A three-member bench was formed under the chief justice, which began hearing of provision of clean water case. The counsel for the defendant mineral water company claimed that the water provided is clean and safe for drinking.

“The court can summon the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PCSQA) report if required,” he argued.

Justice Nisar remarked that hiring an influential lawyer will not manipulate the outcomes of the hearing. “Companies should have the consciousness to provide clean water, we have to care for the people and the children.”

The court then ordered distribution of all 24 companies to be stopped until further notice. The court adjourned the hearing for indefinitely.

For the past few months, the chief justice is taking much interest in ensuring that bottled water being supplied by different companies meets the required standards.

It transpired during testing of the water that it was contaminated and the consumers were being charged for water which was not fit for drinking.

The chief justice has also taken to task the concerned government authorities for negligence to this important issues. He directed them to pay the due attention so that nobody could play with the health of citizens.
