Pound to euro exchange rate: Sterling fluctuating ahead of ECB policy meeting

THE pound to euro exchange rate hit an eight-month high this morning – but how will today’s European Central Bank (ECB) meeting affect it?

EXCHANGE RATE LIVE: Changes are expected to be announced later today.

In a matter of hours, the European Central Bank (ECB) will participate in their January policy meeting, fronted by Mario Draghi and his team.

It’s likely that this engagement, which kicks off at 13.30, will affect the exchange rate between the pound and the euro.

Today, following news that the UK’s employment rate is at 75.3%, the highest level since the early 1970s.

But this could soon change as currency charts have already shown fluctuations ahead of the ECB’s meeting today.

EXCHANGE RATE: Figures have been fluctuating today ahead of the meeting

Over the past few hours the exchange rate has been flitting between lows of €1.14719 and highs of €1.14719 to the pound.

Today’s meeting could either strengthen or weaken the pound.

Many analysts have estimated that any changes should be gradual as forecasts were already made in December.

Others believe that the ECB is waiting until March to announce any major revisions.
