STAMFORD-Five firefighters will be recognized next week for saving the life of a heart attack victim at a martial arts class in December.
Deputy Fire Chief Patrick Tripodi said off-duty firefighter Lance Adams was in a martial arts class at the Summer Street martial arts studio on Dec. 19 when a 56-year-old man suffered cardiac arrest.
Adams actuated the 9-1-1 system and began CPR on the man. Minutes later, Stamford Engine Co. #5 commanded by Acting Lieutenant Michael Dragonnetti arrived with firefighters Fabio Basile, Brendan O'Reilly and Ryan Southard and continued CPR and and ventilated the patient with oxygen.
Stamford EMS medics then defibrillated the man resulting in the return of spontaneous heart pulses and respiration. Tripodi said. The paramedics, along with firefighters rushed the victim to Stamford Hospital.
The man has since recovered and will be present to see the five firefighters receive their Stamford Fire Department Commendations along with a Meritorious Service Award from the Police and Fireman’s Insurance Assocation.
The award ceremony will be held at Central Fire Headquarters, 629 Main Street, Stamford on Thursday, February 1st, 2018 at 9:30 a.m.
