MRSM deputy principal arrested by MACC for power abuse
PETALING JAYA: A deputy principal of a Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) was arrested today by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly awarding a supply contract to a crony.
Investigators also arrested the 48-year-old woman's son aged 24 and a businessman aged 40 over a RM79,000 contract for the supply of essential items meant for students of the college in Kuala Kubu Baru.
The trio were held between 4.30pm and 7pm today (Thurs).
Sources revealed that the deputy principal had allegedly abused her powers by awarding the contract directly to a company owned by her son's friend between 2016 and 2017.
Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim who confirmed the arrests said a remand order to detain the suspects further will be sought by the commission tomorrow.
"Investigations were initiated on the case after following a public tip-off. We are recording statements from witnesses to gather further information," he said.
