The world of storage density took another monumental step forward with the announcement of the 512GB microSD card.
At 512GB, it's the largest capacity microSD card ever created, and it almost certainly will work with Nintendo Switch. However, it hasn't been tested yet, which is why we're saying it "almost certainly" will work, and not "will definitely and 100% totally work for sure."
The card conforms to the MicroSDXC standard, which is the same standard the Nintendo Switch is designed to work with. In fact, Nintendo Switch will work with microSD cards up to 2TB when our future scientists and engineers figure out how to make them a reality.
But hey, we're a quarter of the way there right now, which is good news for anyone looking to cram as much information in as small a space as is currently possible in the microSD standard.
What's even better is we won't have to wait long to find out if the new card truly is compatible with Switch (and again, there's no reason to think it isn't, but it hasn't officially been tested): the cards come out next month.
No costs have yet been given, but you can bet they won't be cheap. A decent 256GB microSD card will set you back at least $100, if you're lucky.
