Google is celebrating India’s Republic Day 21=018 with a colourful doodle. The Google doodle on 69th Republic day showcases the vibrant culture, traditions, art forms and beliefs. It depicts the diversity of India and how it preserves its ethnicity. Republic Day honours January 26, the day on which the Constitution of India came into effect. India got independence from the British on August 15, 1947, after which the Constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949. It came into effect on January 26, 1950, and since then, India celebrates Republic Day on January 26 every year.

Majorly dressed in hues of blue, the doodle also has an outline of saffron and green depicting the national flag. Musical instruments including flutes and drums are all a part of the radiant illustration. The Republic Day Google doodle also has depictions of an elephant and camel portraying the country’s rich heritage that values animals. Republic Day is a national festival in the country and witnesses large-scale celebrations across states. People hoist the tricolour, sing the national anthem and salute it. People across the country host cultural and other events marking the day.

Parades showcasing the nation’s human and mechanical strength are held at Rajpath in New Delhi. Colourful tableaux depicting each state’s cultural identity among others will also be displayed at the event. This year, the ten heads of Association of Southeast Asian Nations or ASEAN leaders will be the Chief Guests. The event is attended by the country’s President, Prime Minister, dignitaries and other leaders. The parade is also telecasted live on the public service broadcaster, Doordarshan.
